The holidays are over and so it is busier again on the road. To do something about that, today the campaign Gafilevrij started. This is a program where commuters can save up to a value of €275,-. for gifts if they leave the car at home more often. Motorists who regularly travel during the evening rush hour in Groningen on the southern ring road between the Julianaplein and the Europaweg, can participate in the program. By switching to a bicycle or public transport, working at home or travelling outside the evening rush hour, participants can save credits. The credits can be spent at,, on public transport or donated to a charity. The programme is an initiative of Groningen Bereikbaar, a partnership in which the business community, government and many other partners work together to make the city accessible during the activities. anyone who wants to participate in Gafilevrij can download the free app TimesUpp and register at Alderman Paul de Rook, also chairman of the Groningen Bereikbaar steering group: “In recent years, thanks to the joint efforts of companies and governments, many commuters have already switched to a different way of travelling. But it is still busy on the road and with the upcoming roadwork we want to reduce the pressure on the southern ring road. With this program we want to give commuters who still travel by car on the ring road an extra incentive to try something else.
